Re: (tabletop) miniatures thread

It's really fun comparing GW minis to most other stuff out there, they really love their hard edges and panel gaps. It makes sense, that stuff makes drybrushing and washes feel like magic.

Re: what's everyone reading?

The only specific book goal is I want to read Romance of the Three Kingdoms , which I wanted to do last year but got too busy for.

27 chapters into this and it's been really interesting! The kinda episodic pace makes it a lot less daunting to chip away at, and it feels like the pace is now ...

Re: the divine sport of CHESS

I've been curious to get back into chess (or shogi, I really like the respawning mechanics in that) for a while but for some reason I never really put in enough effort to actually do it. When I was a kid my dad used to make me play against him and I don't think I won a game in my life until I was in ...

Re: what's everyone reading?

I'm careful around new years goals since they can backfire so easily but I want to read at least a little bit every day, even if it's something small (I read Seneca's letters on ethics last year over the course of summer-fall, 2-ish at a time, which felt really nice). The only specific book goal is ...

Re: Works in progress

I've severely limited sharing in-process works or honestly even talking much about in-process works for the simple reason that it gives me a similar kind of satisfaction as actually sharing the finished work. That satisfaction genuinely makes me complacent because I feel like I've communicated what ...

I've never heard of it being part of a series tbh! I read it as a standalone work.

Re: Two short stories

I hadn't considered reading Faulkner, but after you mentioned having read one of his books I unsuccessfully poked around for an entry point into his works—maybe I could start with his Collected Stories ? I assumed, with no absolutely basis, that he was better in the long form.

Anything memorable ...

Re: What's your Plein Air kit is like?

IME graphite smudges on the other side a little bit, especially as you keep drawing in it (I sometimes stick a piece of paper in between the last two pages if I want to minimize this a little), but some pressed charcoal seems to smudge both across the page and on its own page just from handling the ...

Re: Let's talk about music!

for music discovering i really enjoy https://www.nts.live/ for the novelty of "humans picking music". i pay a sub mostly for the track-listing but it's a bit spotty

NTS is also what I jumped over to for "background listening" purposes when my boy Neil Young libbed out on Spotify. It's real nice ...

Re: What's your Plein Air kit is like?

Charcoal, pastel etc. all smudge real bad in a sketchbook which makes it a really non-portable medium for me. Fortunately I have access to really good coloured pencil options so I usually just grab those if I'm in a dry media mood. There's also watercolour pencils for versatility! Though, tbh, if I ...
