Re: "simplifying the fun away", by Amos

I realize this is a minor point in the argument of the article, but I was curious about the remark on the aesthetic appeal of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 . I also remember some discussion in a stream (I also remember conversation on conventions for fog of war?). Would you be able to speak more ...

Re: (tabletop) miniatures thread

Ooh, really nice colour schemes! I can see the wash pooling a little bit but tbh I kind of like that look on my own minis anyway, plus you can always fix it with layering. Are you going to do drybrushing or edge highlighting of any kind? These look like they have some great geometry for that.

As ...

Did my first solo game of (basic rules) BattleTech! First scenario from the AGoAC manual, which is a parallel fight between two teams of a Catapult, Shadow Hawk, Locust and Commando. Obviously, outsmarting and outplaying yourself in a strategy game is a little ...

Re: Let's talk about music!

I've been really enjoying this whole james K album recently. I think "play" is the big one but I really like most of the tracks on it:

Also really digging this production music track recently, somewhere in between like "Joe Hisaishi on a Beat Takeshi movie" and a psx ...

Re: "simplifying the fun away", by Amos

I just wound down a Civ III playthrough (Inca, monarch difficulty) where I kind of gradually lost interest in several steps:

at the end of the expansion/settling stage once the lines had been fully drawn - expansion in Civ 3 is very fun, the maps are huge and cool looking, but once you settle in ...

Re: movie thread

Man, watching an anime movie in 3D sounds awesome. I feel like my brain would just be going "no what this is wrong" the whole time.

I recently watched The Big Short the other day because people keep posting that gif of Christian Bale looking at his computer every time there's a news article about ...

Making terrain seems awesome, but I don't have the kind of storage space you'd want for that right now...

Re: Street View

Yesss I'd love to see more street view finds! I don't go there as much these days (though I used to be completely fascinated with Google Earth and Street View a decade ago), but I love finding all the weird little vignettes and scenarios that get captured. It's also cool when a location gets ...

Re: board game

Now that I'm done painting my battletech guys I've been chewing through the rules manual and getting ready to do a couple test solo games myself. Even without an algorithm for opponent decisionmaking it seems kind of chill to have a boardgame laid out for supping on across a couple days...
