hey,
There's a possiblity to use this extension to embed stuff like youtube videos or tweets or whatever else in posts. I could switch it on, but I'm kind of worried about the specter of third party cookies. I think this happens to some extent even when just clicking external links, but fetching (for example) a youtube video to be embedded into a post here makes it trivial for youtube to create tracking cookies. This is in general a privacy/GDPR issue and more specifically really skeezy so I personally am leaning against enabling content embeds, but you guys let me know if you feel strongly the other way and I'll consider it.
media embed extension?
Re: media embed extension?
i feel like it is relatively indispensable to have as a feature specifically when talking about Music... it feels a bit weak from a Poster's Quality perspective to ask people to click on a link that takes them to a separate website to listen to a song you'd like to share but like... it's only just mostly annoying, vs the more tangible safety concerns for Not having it. so i don't think it's crucial.
it would just take going the extra effort to format your post/embed album covers or whatever like nadia & sopy did to make a posts that read & illustrate well. not the end of the world at all if we don't have it, but not an effort i'm always in the zone to wanna give when posting on a forum vs my desire to throw in an embedded video to break up the text with a big and simple audiovisual indicator.

Re: media embed extension?
See this is interesting because I almost always prefer to click a link to listen to the music in another tab, but the visual aspect of it is a good point...

I'm personally very pro-embeds also, to be honest... I guess I kind of have a very defeatist mentality about the modern internet and cookies and data tracking but I understand the concerns. I'm content with however it ends up but I like 'em.

Ok, for now I have implemented custom BBcode (the youtube button should show up in the bbcode bar up top) that takes youtu.be links and embeds them from youtube-nocookie.com, which is what YT offers when you ask them for an increased privacy embed. I'll have to do some more reading on this but in the meantime please don't sue the forum for GDPR compliance.
