Ooh those look awesome. I think GW leaked all their STLs back in like the start of October so you might actually be painting official models there, just with slightly worse(?) material. I hope you have fun with them! I always wanted to paint some T'au...



My 8 Battletech starter guys are done! I just finished the final coat of varnish this morning, then glued on some grass tufts and re-glossed the canopies.




The red & green ones are my favourite, though I'm glad I tried 4 different schemes. When I started adding the rust tone to the green ones they instantly looked 8 times more interesting, it was such a fun and easy effect.



The starter set comes with this kinda martian red playmat, which is where I got the colour scheme for my bases. I think they look really good in play!

Awesome job! Already said that but variety of guys and their paint schemes turned out great!
Also are you going to do some terrain tiles and elements/obstacles if you like the game? I've been thinking about that element a lot as well after me and a friend ordered a starting set, just seems like a really fun thing to do

I understand, maybe...someday, but yeah living in a place and finally thinking I actually kind of want some things around me and not just bare essentials and I quickly started to realize how much space boxes might take (and not only boxes)

Okay, had two sessions of trying to figure how to even paint minis and I think I'm getting the hang of it.
The Blue/Grey guy was primed, painted with main colors and washed. Wash didn't lay ideally in some spots (i just sorta missed gravity doing its thing so got a bit too much in some spots) but will try to fix it with final session of correcting things and putting down highlights.
For the second guy just trying to figure what kind of color scheme I even want so there's not much yet.
I also was trying paints out on some Tau drones so i understand how it works on minis and they def have way too much undiluted paint (or not diluted enough rather)
Also Turns out taking photos of minis is quite tough!

Ooh, really nice colour schemes! I can see the wash pooling a little bit but tbh I kind of like that look on my own minis anyway, plus you can always fix it with layering. Are you going to do drybrushing or edge highlighting of any kind? These look like they have some great geometry for that.

As for undiluted paints, yeah, pretty much every mini paint is too thick out of the bottle. The Duncan Rhodes meme or "two thin coats" is generally very true. My thumb ends up completely covered in paint whenever I'm working as I test paint consistency. It took me a while to get right, but I think I managed by the end of my starter set adventure.

My local games store was having a sale & the BattleTech Clan Invasion box was going for real cheap so I picked that up last week. Now I just gotta wait for it to be dry and warm again...
