today is rainy and im alone so time to bust out the robust solitaire mode on medium-heavy asymmetric wargame "China's War 1937-1941"

AZUL all the azuls are pretty and fun to tactile with. i have and like the 'summer pavilion' edition thats spiky starbursts instead of square tiles

PAN AM very cute use of theming. just enough 'narrative history' hook to hook me while being 'abstract fun gamey' enough for people who are less 'core gamer' than my brain chooses to be

Solitaire board games have really captivated some part of me ever since I learned about their existence. I keep daydreaming about D-Day at Omaha Beach, but not enough to actually seek it out.

worrrd, most of my experience with GMT Games' oeuvre is multiplayer stuff (China's War is a 4-player game that just happens to have AI support for all four players which is its own super interesting, if very overwhelming, tactile thing on its own), but the other two games i have preorders on the way are solitaire only Zheng He (ming dynasty naval exploration prestige and court politics game), and Silent Victory (world war 2 US submarine crew simulator).


also in the solitaire camp i've been really fascinated with a few tabletop sim plays of I, Napoleon i gotta get this in my collection sometime but it's fairly yuge

finally unboxed some moving stuff from the garage, so second #shelfcheck post on these forums. delphi broke the handlebars off my yurucamp nendo so she only gets dispayed in the box now :(

Now that I'm done painting my battletech guys I've been chewing through the rules manual and getting ready to do a couple test solo games myself. Even without an algorithm for opponent decisionmaking it seems kind of chill to have a boardgame laid out for supping on across a couple days...

Root spotted! I've always wanted to try that one.

Did my first solo game of (basic rules) BattleTech! First scenario from the AGoAC manual, which is a parallel fight between two teams of a Catapult, Shadow Hawk, Locust and Commando. Obviously, outsmarting and outplaying yourself in a strategy game is a little hard, but keeping track of all the different phases kept me busy enough that I didn't have enough time actually thinking too hard about strategy. Game's really fun though, simultaneously made me want to get an "actual" solo boardgame to play and also to get a better hang of the rules so I can teach my local friends.
